He is greatest whose strength carries up the most hearts by the attraction of his own. -- Henry Ward Beecher

Lowell Klaisner

I like the outdoors. I remember camping with my parents and one time hiking to the top of Lasen Peak with my Dad. These are good memories. In the Midwest, there were annual, weeklong treks to the boundary water canoe area in northern Michigan. These were good father-son activities with hiking, canoeing, and fishing.

In the northwest, we trekked in the Cascades. A group of us made an annual trip from the "wet side" to our church's camp on the on the east side. These were three-day backpacking trips.

I joined the Mountaineers in Seattle and took their training in scrambling (off-trail hiking) and Mountaineering Oriented First Aid. Also, I went on many of their scrambles. I have hiked in the Sierras with fellow workers since moving back to California. These treks have been to the high country above Yosemite. Being with nature and friends and away from civilization is very refreshing.

I have an interest in nature photography and like to take my camera with me on hikes. This interest has been on hold but I see an opportunity to revive it.
